Biography
Axel Ingelman-Sundberg was professor and head of obstetrics and gynecology at Sabbatsberg Hospital, Karolinska Institute, Stockholm, from 1949 to 1979.2 Ingelman-Sundberg studied medicine at Uppsala University.2 Ingelman-Sundberg co-founded the International Urogynecological Association in 1976.2 Ingelman-Sundberg served as the association's president from 1976 to 1980.3
Contributions
- Ingelman-Sundberg pubococcygeus repair for stress urinary incontinence (1947). Described an extravaginal pelvic floor repair using pubococcygeus muscle to support the bladder neck in stress urinary incontinence.4
- Co-founding the International Urogynecological Association (1976). Co-organized the association’s founding at the 1976 FIGO meeting and served as its first president.5
